Infield Parking
Hey guys,
We are shooting a commercial for Sony today, so I thought I’d update my blog while the crew takes a break, so this might be long. I’ve been kind of busy lately, so here’s a little bit of what I’ve had going on.
A few weeks ago I announce the Navy’s Dale Jr. Division in Talladega. It’s a pretty cool recruiting program they’ve put together. I’ll be running a special No. 83 Navy Dale Jr. Division paint scheme in the Nationwide Series race May 24 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
Brad and I paid a visit to all the sailors aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt before we headed up to Richmond for the race a couple weeks ago. It was a really cool trip. We landed on the deck of the carrier on our second attempt – I think they were just messing with us the first time around. Then we had lunch and toured the huge aircraft carrier before we went back up to the flight deck to watch planes take off and land. That was just incredible. I was really impressed with the maturity of the young sailors. We’ve got some cool photos from the trip up on DaleJr.com, so check it out.
Speaking of the Web site, the folks at JRM have put a lot of work into getting the new site completed and up in the last few months and they’re finally putting the finishing touches on it. Be sure to check it out and let them know what you think.
I’ve been doing a lot of testing lately. Last week we were in Charlotte getting ready for the All-Star race and the 600. Overall we had a good test and should be good when we go back. We’re running a special paint scheme for the All-Star race — the National Guard Citizen Soldier/AMP Energy Chevrolet that features 3 Doors Down’s song “Citizen Soldier.”
If you’re in Charlotte next week, be sure to stop by JR Motorsports and check out the Fan Zone activities that they’re going to have out there. They’ve got a lot of stuff scheduled for next Thursday and Friday, including QVC’s “For Race Fans Only” that I’ll be on Friday night.
Just in case you missed it, pick up a copy of this week’s ESPN The Magazine — I’m on the cover. I sat down with Marty Smith back in the off season for a long interview and we covered a lot of different stuff. I think the article turned out really well, so check it out.
